Dual Language
MANDARIN DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM
Students throughout the San Gabriel Valley who wish to learn Mandarin will now have the opportunity to do so free of charge, in a public-school setting at Orangewood Elementary and Edgewood Schools in the West Covina Unified School District, a state-certified district of choice.
SPANISH DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM
The West Covina Unified School District currently offers a Dual Language Immersion Program at Monte Vista Elementary, Orangewood Elementary, and Edgewood Schools. Beginning in TK or Kindergarten, native Spanish and native English speaking students study together for the purpose of becoming bilingual and biliterate, able to read, write, think and communicate in English and Spanish, upon high school graduation.
Dual Language Immersion Programs have proven effective for a wide variety of students. Students who have the ability to read, write, think, and communicate in two languages are better prepared to compete in a global economy and possess a command of language that will support them in being college and career ready upon graduation.
